Books

Dead tree word salad!

I don’t read as much as I’d want lately, but try to at least supplement it with audiobooks.

Favourites

Fiction

  • Matt Dinniman: Dungeon Crawler Carl (series): Only discovered this in 2026, but it has immediately become one of my favourite book series ever. Can’t recommend it enough. A videogame-ish adventure that has both heart and humour.
  • Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman: Good Omens: I could read this book over and over and I’d still find new things in it. Two masters at work.
  • James S. A. Corey: The Expanse (series): A sci-fi series that’s epic and personal at the same time. Also adapted into a TV show.
  • John Morressy: Kedrigern (series): Probably my favourite books from childhood.
  • Andrej Sapkowski: The Witcher (series): Extremely well known because of the games, but really worth reading!
  • Ken Liu: The Hidden Girl and Other Stories: Only discovered this short story collection because of the Pantheon TV show (that is based on this), but I love it so much!
  • Ted Chiang: Stories of Your Life and Others: A great short story collection, one of which was the basis for the 2016 sci-fi film masterpiece Arrival.

Non-fiction (such a stupid name, isn’t it?)

  • Matt Parker: Humble Pi: A very funny book full of interesting maths stories and facts. Look into the stand-up show as well!
  • Randall Munroe: What If?: A very fun nerdy science book from the creator of xkcd. Do you see a pattern here?
  • Devon Price: Unmasking Autism: Here’s a confession: I haven’t actually finished this book yet, but it has still taught me so much about Neurodiversity and the way people’s brains work.

Graphic Novels & Comic books

  • Emma Vieceli: Life is Strange: This 6 volume series takes place after one of the endings of the Life is Strange videogame, and it’s the only time I’ve ever cried while reading a comic book. Wholeheartedly recommended to fans of the game!
  • ND Stevenson: Nimona: Shape-shifters! Villains! Knights! Technology!
  • Bryan Lee O’Malley: Scott Pilgrim: This is an amazing geeky series, full of videogame references, music and early 20s drama. And the ending is actually fairly different than in the (amazing) 2010 film!
  • Jeff Smith: Bone: This is an epic comic book story that can be enjoyed by adults and kids alike.
  • Neil Gaiman: The Sandman: I really love this series, it’s deep and dark.
